LED lighting fixtures are a general term for LED lamps. With the further maturity of LED technology, LEDs will achieve more and better development in the design and development of residential lighting fixtures. The design of residential lighting fixtures in the 21st century will be dominated by LED lighting design, while fully reflecting the trends of energy saving, health, artistry, and humanization in lighting development, becoming the leading culture of residential lighting.
Energy saving
Research data shows that since LEDs are cold light sources, semiconductor lighting itself does not pollute the environment. Compared to incandescent lamps and fluorescent lamps, the energy-saving efficiency can reach over 90%. At the same brightness, the power consumption is only 1/10 of that of ordinary incandescent lamps and 1/2 of fluorescent tubes. If we replace 50% of our current traditional lighting with LEDs, the annual electricity savings in our country would be equivalent to the total power generation of a Three Gorges power station, making the energy-saving benefits quite remarkable.
Health
 
LEDs are a green light source. LED lamps are driven by direct current, with no flicker; they do not contain infrared or ultraviolet components, and have no radiation pollution. They have high color rendering and strong luminous directionality; they have good dimming performance, and there is no visual error when the color temperature changes; cold light sources have low heat output and can be safely touched; these are all things that incandescent lamps and daylight lamps cannot achieve. They can provide a comfortable lighting space while also meeting human physiological health needs, making them a healthy light source that protects vision and is environmentally friendly.
 
Due to the currently low power and brightness of a single LED, it is not suitable for standalone use. However, assembling multiple LEDs together to design practical LED lighting fixtures has broad application prospects. Lighting designers can determine the shape of the optical system, the number of LEDs, and the power size based on the lighting object and luminous flux requirements; they can also combine several LED light tubes to design point light sources, ring light sources, or surface light sources as "secondary light sources," and design fixtures based on the combined "secondary light sources."
Artistic
 
Light color is a fundamental element of visual aesthetics and an important means of beautifying residential spaces. The choice of light source directly affects the artistic effect of the lighting. LEDs show unparalleled advantages in the artistic display of light color; currently, colored LED products cover the entire visible spectrum, with good monochromaticity and high color purity. The combination of red, green, and yellow LEDs allows for great flexibility in the selection of colors and gray levels (16.7 million colors). Lighting fixtures are luminous sculptures, and the material forms of fixtures constructed from materials, structures, shapes, and textures are also important means of showcasing art. LED technology allows residential lighting fixtures to better organically combine science and art, breaking the traditional boundaries of lighting fixtures and transcending the inherent concepts of so-called fixture forms. Lighting design recognizes, understands, and expresses the theme of light from a completely new perspective in the artistic creative expression of visual perception and form. We can more flexibly utilize the combination of light and dark, light and color in optical technology, and the advantages of material and structural design, increasing design freedom to weaken the lighting function of fixtures, allowing fixtures to become a form of visual art, creating comfortable and beautiful lighting art effects. For example, LED lamps made of translucent synthetic materials and aluminum, resembling candles, can be placed freely on the ground, in corners, or on tables, with a simple and relaxed design that conveys visual sensations and light experiences, turning fixtures into lively entities full of interest and vitality.
Humanization
 
Undoubtedly, the relationship between light and humans is an eternal topic. "People see the lamp, I see the light"—this classic phrase has changed the understanding of countless designers about lamps. The highest realm of lighting fixtures is the "shadowless lamp," which is also the highest embodiment of humanized lighting. In a room where there are no traces of any common lighting fixtures, people can feel the brightness without finding the light source, reflecting a humanized design that perfectly combines light and human life.
 
Design Concept
The design concept of LED lighting fixtures has two types: one is the environmental demand-based design proposed by Philips in 2008, called scenario lighting. The other is the human demand-based design proposed by Casio in 2009, called mood lighting.
 
LED fixtures can use different colored LEDs to form various modules with soft illumination, which can be installed anywhere in the residence. The light source for residential lighting fixtures may come from the floor, walls, windowsills, furniture, decorations, etc. Therefore, future residential lighting will no longer be limited to single fixtures, but will transform from single fixture lighting to an overall lighting effect without the sense of lighting devices, like shadowless lamps. Different colors and brightness can have different effects on human physiology and psychology. In many cases, people do not need very bright white light; yellow light or other colors may better suit physiological and psychological needs. Tricolor LEDs can achieve continuous changes and selections of brightness, gray levels, and colors, expanding lighting from the general concept of white light to various colors of light.
 
Market
Therefore, people can set lighting effects based on overall lighting needs (such as color, temperature, brightness, and direction) to achieve humanized intelligent control, creating different indoor lighting effects. Even if there are only LED luminous ceilings and luminous walls in the residence, people can choose and control the brightness, gray levels, and color changes of light according to their requirements, scene conditions, and different understandings of the environment and life, simulating various lighting environments to guide and improve emotions, reflecting a more humanized lighting environment.
